GREG WALTON is often heard quoting the tagline, “It’s more than just music…It’s about community!” What is also evident with this singer, songwriter, and speaker is that his Christian faith acts itself out in charity and that he partners often with the relief and development efforts of organizations such as CRS and Mercy Corps. This commitment can be heard in his 5 Unity Award winning single titled- TUNE OF IGNORANCE.
Greg recalls, “I was inspired to write the song after I started supporting a child in Rwanda through a relief and development organization. By living a Judeo-Christian spiritual life, I believe that serving the poor is central to my understanding of living in love, so I thought writing a song to encourage others to meet the needs of the poor was key.”
The song, produced by Jeff Thomas (Matt Maher-Your Grace Is Enough), also features key players including Ken Lewis, Matt Pierson, Scott Dente, and others. In addition to the release of the radio single, which is available through ITUNES and other download distributors, Greg Walton hosts a coordinating “impact project” during his LIVE concert appearances where concert goers can drop a “buck in the bucket” after he performs the song and proceeds will benefit CRS. 100% of the net proceeds from digital sales benefits CRS as well.
Greg’s third album is about taking a stand for your faith, a challenge young Christians face more and more often in our world. A high school teacher on the side, Greg is all too familiar with this. I Won’t Back Down offers 11 songs that encourage all the faithful to stand strong in their commitment to Jesus and to stay on the narrow way that leads to the Kingdom of God.
A great song made even better, the title track is Greg’s excellent cover of the Tom Petty hit. The album also features nine new Walton originals, Christian rock gems, all.
Although he’s a solo artist, Greg wasn’t alone on this album. “One of the things I’ve learned is that you can’t build something great without a lot of help. A songwriter’s journey never ends and there was a lot of distance I wanted to cover for this project, but I knew I couldn’t do it alone.” Greg sought the coaching of manager, Greg Menza, Polarboy’s band leader Pol Buckingham, producer John Pisciotta and master songwriter Bob Halligan Jr. (Ceili Rain).
Greg also had the help of some guest artists in addition to his touring band: Aaron Smith (drums; The 77’s & A Ragamuffin Band), Wade Jaynes (bass, Steve Taylor & Over the Rhine, David Teems (flat pickin’), T.J. Klay (harp) and Robin Welty (BGVs).
The end result is good, edgy rock ‘n roll with a great message, making it one of “John Boy’s” strongest works.
